Rising to the challenge of timber
To meet the Paris 2024 Olympic Games’ ambition for environmental excellence, our team has designed these buildings in the Athletes’ Village to showcase French expertise in eco-design. A low-carbon concrete plinth and core infrastructure, composite timber-concrete floors, glued-laminated timber columns, load-bearing timber-frame façades, and green balconies and terraces to enhance bioclimatic comfort.
Key challenges:
- successfully meeting the challenge of using exposed structural timber in the face of fire,
- using timber up to the seventh storey,
- prioritising the use of French timber resources.
